The Hurricanes purchased a two channel Ross Video XPression prior to the start of the 2014-15 NHL season. I was responsible for setting up our new live production workflow with respect to our in-game graphics. This included implementing a workflow that allowed the technical director to take XPression items to live while the XPression operator could be focusing elsewhere on the system, preparing other graphics.
We had a number promotional games that we had executed with previous graphics systems that needed to be rebuilt with XPression, including games like Photo Hunt, Let’s Make A Deal, and Family Feud. Custom scripting is needed with all of these games, particularly because of the way images are layered, plus the non-linear nature of each of these games. Some scripting was straight forward and simply involved taking multiple take items to live at a specific frame, while others, like Let’s Make A Deal, required dynamically shifting a layer a take item was on so it would appear as expected. Photo Hunt also involved additional scripting — like triggering a “game over” take item if the timer ran out, or, if all the correct answers were revealed, automatically stopping the timer.
See below for examples of XPression implementation from the 2014-15 season.
You can also see much more extensive API and scripting integration as a part of my HITSVision program: http://ncsu1.com/works/nhl-in-game-data-display-program/
